The Celebration of Two Milestones

A Sweet Sixteen & Bat Mitzvah

Like many pandemic stories, major milestones like Sam’s Bat Mitzvah were put on pause. The silver lining? It made the planning of two celebratory events – a combination Bat Mitzvah and Sweet Sixteen Birthday – all the more memorable.

They say location is everything. As Philadelphia natives, the family synagogue was close to the hotel, doubling as a convenient, under-one-roof venue for family and friends to gather and celebrate. The day of the party, Sam’s family checked into a suite, a spacious room to greet out-of-towners, “get ready” for the event and unwind post-celebration. Working closely with the hotel’s seasoned on-site event coordinator, Desiree Sklar, the family made use of the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Philadelphia’s multiple event spaces. With its dazzling views, the Stratus Rooftop Lounge hosted a special cocktail hour, and afterwards guests moved downstairs, where a memorable Halloween themed party was enjoyed by all.

Memorable Details

A creative, elevated spin on Halloween decor showcased an array of upscale props such as spooky signs, hanging skeletons and bat-themed cocktail glasses. Downstairs, an array of several event rooms hosted a sprawl of chef-created culinary delights and signature props while the hallway served as a popular spot for a mirrored photo booth.

“Event coordinator Desiree Sklar was incredible and ensured all the details came together perfectly. We didn’t have to worry about anything on the day of the party. We just showed up and had fun.”

“Monaco printed custom menus to match the theme and incorporated Sam's logo that was a huge benefit and the staff was amazing to work with.”

Cocktails

In line with Sam’s special Halloween theme, guests were encouraged to dress up. The main room was kitted out with upscale purple-and-green lit projected branches while a smaller room hosted a kid’s buffet with chef-designed culinary touches – guacamole with a spider web outline, breadstick spiders and for dessert, delicious chocolate-covered strawberry ghosts.

Behind the dazzling entertainment was a DJ, drummer and emcee – who made sure the costume contest was enjoyed by all. Coordinator Desiree Sklar made sure the small details were one for the books. “She had fantastic ideas for how to make the party creative and fun,” including adding Halloween headbands and other spooky props that helped guests get into the spirit.
