Katie + Ryan

Finding Love in an Elevator

First-day work jitters + a subsequent love

The couple met in 2011 in the elevator, on Katie’s first day of work at Five Below (Ryan had been working there for about a year). Katie says she must’ve had first-day jitters since she didn’t remember their initial meeting; they started dating in early 2012. The couple wanted to get married in Philadelphia since it’s where they met and fell in love, and it’s also their beloved home. Although they looked at many venues, they excitedly chose Hotel Monaco because of the amazing rooftop where they could host their cocktail hour (and a half!), plus they immediately felt joyful and at ease when spending time at the hotel.

Memorable Details

The day began with a mini-hiccup—the bride jumping in a 7 a.m. Uber to grab the hair piece she had forgotten at home. Once back at the hotel, she began getting ready with her bridesmaids and sisters, who had stayed in the suite with her the night before. She was in contact with her groom-to-be from the moment they woke up; the rest of the day was a whirlwind. The first look took place amid exquisite rooftop views.

Lafayette Ballroom
First Look

The Lafayette Ballroom ceremony followed a romantic theme featuring flowers (beautiful blush, ivory and greens with succulents), as well as brushed gold vases and candelabras. The couple got married under an arch, near complementary flowers and lanterns. A pianist played as the bride’s parents walked her down the aisle, and celebrant Beth Palubinsky helped create the “best ceremony.” During the cocktail hour up at Stratus, a wonderful jazz duo played, while guests enjoyed delicious drinks and snacks (including a raw bar).

The couple will most remember the beautiful rooftop and ballroom, plus how friendly, excited and helpful they found the entire Kimpton team to be.

Ceremony
Reception

Reception highlights in the Lafayette Ballroom included tear-inducing speeches, rave-worthy food and a fabulous DJ-drummer duo that had “LITERALLY EVERYONE” dancing the night away. After the reception, an unforgettable rooftop after-party meant late-night snacks and an open bar that kept the party going into the wee hours. The elated newlyweds spent the night in a Monaco bridal suite.
